Unseen Support: Tools and Resources to Help Pharmacists Manage Their Responsibility

Writer's picture: Katie AlversKatie Alvers

We know that as a pharmacist, you have a great deal of responsibilty on your shoulders. You're mostly dealing with the public face to face, tasked with offering the highest quality of help and support to the most vulnerable in society.

What is less obvious is some of the support pharmacists can lean on to help them shoulder the responsibilty of their role. Below we'll outline a couple of resources we've come across which offer potential support to you, and even family members.

Pharmacist Support

Pharmacist Support are a registered charity with an aspiration "to support an empowered and resilient pharmacy workforce". They can offer finanical assitance, specialist advice, addiction support, counselling and peer support and a wellbeing service, as well as other resources. Head over to their "I need help managing..." page to explore the areas they offer guidance with. Even if not for yourself, you might know of a peer or colleague who might find Pharmacist Support helpful in a time of need.

Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust

Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust a charitable incorporated organisation. They "provide help with university costs through...undergraduate and postgraduate bursary schemes". They also "make grants to registered charities that provide welfare support to pharmacists, grocers and commercial travellers, or to their families". Dependentdent on meeting eligibilty criteria, yourself or a family member could benefit from undergrad and postgrad bursaries, grants for assistance with school essentials or even bursaries for vocational studies. We recommend interacting with their website or even emailing them to see what assistance might be avaialble if you or an immediate family member are in further education.

The above two resources are just a couple of organisations we have personally come across, we're sure there are more out there. The comments on this blog will be left open and if you know of any other supportive resources you think another locum pharmacy professional could benefit, please feel free to share the details.
